The Sudanese police hound the couple because of their political importance and prevent Pratt and Carter from caring for the Sheik. His wife delivers the baby while he is imprisoned and suffers post partum complication that necessitate transporting her to a surgical center. On the way Pratt and Dakarai (guest star Eamonn Walker) are attacked by Janjaweed soldiers and Pratt must continue the journey alone.
12x21 The Gallant Hero & the Tragic Victor - Kovac is forced to take serious action as Clemente's behavior spirals out of control. Neela receives a job offer and tragic news. Pratt readjusts to American medicine while treating abused sons and their abusive father. Kovac and Abby take a quiet moment to dream about a vacation before the baby is born.
12x22 Twenty-One Guns - Pratt and Neela attend Gallant's funeral. Sam's ex-husband Steve and another inmate are brought into the ER after a prison fight. With the help of the other inmate's girlfriend, the men put their escape plan into action. Walking into the room, Luka inadvertently discovers their plan and is drugged and tied to a gurney, Sam convinces them to let her intubate him as the drug is paralyzing his lungs. The two men, with Sam forced to assist, finally make their way to the exit doors, but things don't go smoothly, and a major shoot-out ensues. The ER is in chaos; Jerry has been shot. The two men grab Sam and make it out of the building. She becomes their hostage, along with her son, Alex, who was already in the waiting getaway van. Back in the ER, the staff try to save Jerry, and Abby collapses just outside a trauma room where Luka is being treated; he helplessly watches her place a bloody handprint on the door window just before she slumps over and falls to the floor.
